Players have a clear date to circle now: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 arrives on October 23, 2026. Before that, August will give the community its first proper hands-on look. Early access is set for August 21 to 25, then everyone can join the open test from August 28 through September 1. For people looking at a Bot Lobby MW4 to get comfortable with the pace, those sessions should be useful practice before launch-day matches get serious.

August is where the real questions start

The big presentation on August 21 matters, but footage can only tell players so much. Once matches are live, people will notice the small stuff straight away: how fast a weapon settles after a slide, whether footsteps cut through the noise, and whether enemies stay visible when the screen gets busy. Modern Warfare 4 is promising more climbing, hanging, mantling and freer transitions into gunfire. That sounds good on paper. It only works if fights still feel fair when someone comes flying around a corner.
A war story with two sides

The campaign shifts between Private Park, a South Korean recruit caught in an invasion, and Captain Price, who is working outside the usual chain of command. Korea is the heart of the story, though missions also head to New York, Paris and Mumbai. Park's perspective could give the conflict some needed weight. He is not arriving as an outsider; he is defending home. Price, meanwhile, seems to be chasing the people and choices behind the wider crisis. The strongest missions will be the ones that show how those two paths affect each other, rather than treating them like separate stories stitched together.
Movement needs readable gunfights

Multiplayer is leaning hard into control. Random hip-fire spread has been removed, and the developers say recoil, stance, camera movement and weapon handling are meant to line up more closely with what the player actually does. That is a sensible direction. Quick movement is fun, sure, but nobody enjoys losing a fight without knowing why. A few rounds in an MW4 Bot Lobby may help players test routes and weapon feel, yet the open test will show whether the system holds up against unpredictable opponents. Watch close-range encounters in particular. That is where flashy traversal either feels sharp or turns into visual clutter.
Kill Block and DMZ offer different pressure

Kill Block may be the mode to watch. Its modular facility can rearrange routes, cover and sightlines between rounds, with more than 500 possible layouts. Players cannot rely on one favourite angle forever. They will need to spot what changed, call it out, then adjust. DMZ asks for a different mindset. It is about entering contested ground, gathering what you need and deciding when it is time to leave. One mode tests quick adaptation; the other tests patience. If both land, Modern Warfare 4 will offer more than another set of maps and guns when it reaches October 23.
