A quick release looks great in a clip. In a close game, though, the best jumper is the one you can read without thinking about it. Height, shooting attributes and animation speed all matter, but your eyes have to know when to let go. That takes a little testing. If you're also planning your MyTEAM roster and keeping an eye on 2K27 MT, give your MyPLAYER shooting practice its own time. Pick a couple of shots your build can equip, try them from the same spots, and pay attention to what you actually see at release. A shot that feels effortless for somebody else might leave you guessing.
Small Guards: Start With a Cue You Can See
Kyrie Irving is a strong place to start if you like quick stops. Pair his base with Keem Wallace and John Wall releases at a 64/36 blend, set the speed to 4/4, and move the visual cue four ticks behind Push. Watch the feet start to travel forward, or release as the ball reaches the upper forehead. Don't try to watch both at once. Devin Booker offers a different feel: use Ryan and Oscar at 41/59, with 3/4 speed and a cue four ticks right of Push. The ball reaching the top of the forehead is the reference here. Stephen Curry with Collin Sexton and Oscar at 60/40 is worth a few sessions too. Set the cue four ticks right of Push and try 3/4 speed first; 2/4 gives you a bit more time if the motion gets away from you. For another fast option, Seth Curry with Keem Wallace and Devin Carter at 69/31 uses 4/4 speed and a cue four ticks behind Push. Mark Price, paired with Darius and Oscar at 60/40, uses those same speed and cue settings. Test those last two if you prefer a more familiar, older-feeling motion.
Taller Builds: Watch the Release Point
On a taller guard, a quick shot isn't the whole story. You need to feel comfortable getting it off when a defender closes the gap. Try Devin Booker with Oscar and OG Anunoby releases at 63/37. Start at 3/4 speed, then move to 4/4 if you're reading it cleanly; put the cue four ticks behind Push. On a 6'5" guard, look for the ball near the top of the head. Kyle Korver uses Oscar and OG Anunoby at 58/42 and feels worth testing at 3/4 speed, especially if you want a higher-looking release without rushing the cue. Ray Allen is another option: Oscar and Nate at 56/44, 4/4 speed, and four ticks behind Push. With Korver or Allen, stick to one visual reference for a full practice session. The ball near the top of the head is usually easier to spot than a tiny change in the hands.
Check Your Rating Before You Settle In
There's no point getting attached to a combination your build can't equip. For a build with at least 83 Mid-Range or 83 3PT, try the WNBA 7 base with Jamison Battle and Michael Carter-Williams at 69/31. Use 3/4 or 4/4 speed and set the cue four ticks behind Push. The feet moving forward can be a handy signal if you keep losing track of the ball. At 86+ 3PT, WNBA 7 with Oscar and Dylan Brooks at 70/30 gives you another option at 4/4 speed, again with the cue four ticks behind Push. Look for the ball reaching the top of the head. Once you've chosen two or three eligible shots, take each through the same routine: stationary attempts, quick stops, then shots with a defender nearby. If you're late on nearly every attempt, try a slower speed before replacing the whole setup. One rough game isn't much of a verdict.
Final Thoughts
Small guards have several quick bases to work with; taller players may care more about where the ball sits as it leaves the hands. Neither group needs to force 4/4 speed. The useful question is simple: can you spot your cue when the possession gets messy? If you split your time between MyTEAM and MyPLAYER, keep NBA 2K MT plans separate from your jumper tests and judge the shot on how it performs for your build. Give one eligible setup a fair run before changing it. Familiarity won't fix a motion you genuinely can't read, but switching after every missed shot won't teach you much either.
